They Thought That I Was Having a Heart Attack

When I was thirty-nine-years old, I thought that I was dying of a heart attack. One Sunday, I was having a REALLY bad day. I was running a sports themed family restaurant and it was one of the busiest days of football season. I was short handed and stressed beyond belief. I changed out twenty kegs throughout the course of a shift (By myself) and cleaned out an entire bar cooler with over one-hundred cases of beer. I had done too much. My chest started hurting, my lower extremities went cold and I passed out. When I came out of it, the first thing that happened… someone put a Bayer Aspirin in my mouth. They thought that I was having a heart attack.

 

They Thought That I Was Having a Heart Attack

When I got to the hospital, I found out that I hadn’t had a heart attack. I tore a muscle in my chest and it had swollen and cut off circulation to quite a bit of my body. The doctor told me that I experienced what a heart attack would feel like without having one. My response was, “I never want to have that feeling again.”

I asked why someone made me swallow aspirin. It’s just a Bayer Aspirin? Right?!

Here are a couple of facts that started me thinking in a whole different way about my heart.

• There’s a heart attack every 42 seconds in the U.S.
• Taking aspirin during a suspected heart attack can help save a life.

I had no clue! I’ve got a beautiful wife and a daughter that need me. In fact, I carry Bayer with me no matter where I go.
