Everyone has their favorite holiday party recipes they like to share with friends and loved ones. My grandmother used to make rum balls that were worth their weight in gold. My mom would have people beg her to bring over some of her famous sweet potato casserole. Quite a few of these recipes have gotten passed down to me and now have a place on my holiday table.
This year I wanted to stick with some of my traditional delicious party food, but I was also looking to shake things up a bit. My favorite party food of all time has got to be deviled eggs. I love them southern style, northern style, greek style… let’s just say, I like them all! My family are crazy for deviled eggs. I actually married a woman who’s family has a love for them as well and bring them to almost every family gathering. If I was going to impress everyone with a new version, I was going to have to come up with something great.
How Do I Come Up With My Own Version Of Deviled Eggs?
How do you make something better that has been around since the 5th century? Seriously, the Romans came up with them (Look It Up!). So, I decided that I’d visit someplace that usually helps me come up with some great recipe ideas. I walked into my local Walmart hoping to find some serious inspiration. I began walking down the aisles looking for a savory ingredient that I could use in my new recipe. As I walked down the aisle of sauces and condiments, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Tabasco. I’ve always put a dash of Tabasco ONÂ my deviled eggs for a little added flavor. Why couldn’t I just go ahead and add it into the deviled egg mix itself?
Tabasco Has A Lot Of Different Flavors.
Tabasco isn’t a traditional hot sauce, I like to call it a flavor enhancer and there are a lot of different flavors to choose from! I picked up the traditional Red Tabasco, the milder Green Tabasco and the smoky Chipotle Tabasco. Although I liked all of them, I went with Red Tabasco in my recipe.
Tabasco Deviled Eggs Recipe
Ingredients
- 6 eggs
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 teaspoons Tabasco (More To Taste)
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- Smoked Spanish paprika, for garnish
Directions
Place eggs in a single layer in a saucepan and cover with enough water that there’s 1 1/2 inches of water above the eggs. Heat on high until water begins to boil, then cover, turn the heat to low, and cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat and leave covered for 15 minutes, then rinse under cold water for 1 minute.
Crack egg shells and carefully peel under cool running water. Slice the eggs in half lengthwise, removing yolks and placing the whites on a serving platter. Mash the yolks into a fine crumble using a fork. Add mayonnaise, tabasco, mustard, salt, and pepper, and mix well.
Evenly disperse teaspoons of the yolk mixture into the egg whites. Sprinkle with paprika and serve.
