There a lot of tough jobs in this world. Jobs that require strength, humility, a strong mind, a gift for multitasking and constant unselfishness that rivals that of a saint. The hardest of all of these is being a mom. For all of the woman that raised us, loved us and were always there for us… Let’s raise a mug on Mother’s Day!
My wife has been a great mother to our 11-year-old daughter. Every morning she starts out with a cup of San Francisco Bay Coffee and hits the ground running.
I’ll be honest with you, sometimes she can be a mom to me as well. I don’t mind. I’m the first one to admit that when I’m sick, I’m a big ole baby. I really want this Mother’s Day to be the best ever for her. Last year was a bit of a bust.
My family and I love the beach. So, I thought it would be great to go for the weekend and just really spoil my wife. I booked a room at a local resort (One of the perks of living in South Florida is that there are beautiful beaches only 25 minutes away). My daughter and I planned manicures, pedicures, massages… everything that we thought my wife would enjoy on her special day. We got there on Friday and checked in. That night we had a great dinner and I told my wife that we needed to turn in early. She had a full day ahead of her. That morning we had breakfast delivered and my wife decided that she wanted to go lay out on the beach for a bit. Now, my wife is a very fair skinned redhead. We’ve had trouble with sun in the past. She hasn’t ever exploded in the sun or spontaneously combusted, but she’s come close. I wanted her to have the perfect day, so I told her to go lay out and I would be down there in a few minutes. I sat down on the bed for what seemed like a couple of minutes. I woke up 2 1/2 hours later. I ran down to the beach and saw my wife packing up. I told her how sorry I was. She was ready to go get her mani/pedi so I took over watching our daughter. I thought she looked a little red, but she didn’t mention anything about feeling burned. About an hour passed and my daughter and I went back to the room. As I opened the door, I saw my wife and she was glowing like a roman candle on the Fourth of July. She misjudged how long she should’ve stayed in the sun and was burned to a crisp. I wanted to say something like, “Fire engine red is a good color on you.” But, I felt it best to stay quiet. I drove us home instead of staying the extra day. My perfectly planned Mother’s Day was a complete bust.
This year is going to be different. We recently just bought a house. If everything goes right, my wife will be spending Mother’s Day in our first house. I’m thinking about making a nice breakfast on the patio. It will of course start out with a cup of San Francisco Bay Fog Chaser and we got her a new mug to put her favorite morning beverage in. They actually have a series of mugs that are perfect for all of the moms in your life.
My daughter and I picked out the “Best Mom” mug. It says everything you need to know about my wife.
