At first, I was not buying the fact that there could be such a thing as a great dinosaur movie. There were some movies from the 1950’s that I considered kitschy and funny. Now, Steven Spielberg thought that he could adapt a novel by Michael Crichton and deliver a dino movie that would be great? I was certain it was going to be bad but, reluctantly joined my friends on opening weekend. In a dark movie theater in 1993, the movie Jurassic Park became one of my favorite films. It was exciting, visually amazing, action packed, funny and had some great scares! There weren’t too many movies that could deliver on all of those levels.
It Was One Of The Best Summer Blockbusters Ever!
I was counting down the days until Jurassic World was finally going to be in theaters. My daughter is my movie buddy and I wanted to share the experience of seeing this movie with her. My childhood experience was burned in my brain and the only thing that was missing, were my parents. I saw the movie with my friends and I wished I had seen it with my mom and dad instead. Childhood and its experiences are fleeting and when my daughter remembers Jurassic World, I want her to remember that she saw it with dad.
The story resembles the first in a few ways…
22 years after the original Jurassic Park failed, the new park (also known as Jurassic World) is open for business. After years of studying genetics the scientists on the park genetically engineer a new breed of dinosaur. AÂ genetically modified giant stealth killing machine–escapes containment and goes on a killing spree. Everything goes horribly wrong and its up to Chris Pratt to help save everyone.
My daughter reacted just as I hoped she would. She laughed, she hid her eyes, she gasped with excitement and she grabbed a hold of my arm when things got really intense. We had a great time watching this movie. It is a summer blockbuster in every sense of the word!
As we walked out of the theater, she grabbed my hand and told me that it was one of the best movies she had ever seen. Now, I don’t know if she’ll always feel that way, but I do know this. When she grows up and thinks about Jurassic World, she’s always going to remember that she saw it with her dad… And so will I!
