Recently my family was invited to a really cool event on the Carnival Paradise at the Port of Tampa. It involved Dr. Suess, Tampa Bay Rays all-star Evan Longoria, loveable animals and brunch. Let’s just say, they didn’t have to ask me twice! It sounded like a winning combination on every level.
Dr. Seuss Enterprises just released a new Dr. Seuss book, “What Pet Should I Get?â€, which is the first title released in 25 years. It is based on an original manuscript and accompanying sketches by Dr. Seuss, aka Ted Geisel, that was discovered in the home of the late beloved children’s author.
Carnival and Longo (That’s what we call him here in the Tampa Bay area) decided to team up. To celebrate the occasion, Carnival hosted a book reading with Evan Longoria and they are going to match Longoria’s donation of $100 to Pet Pal Animal Shelter for every home run he hits during the 2015 season. The cruise line also donated $2000 to the Tampa Bay chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
Wearing Dr. Seuss’ signature striped hat and surrounded by rescue dogs from the SPCA, Longoria entertained all of the children with a great reading of “What Pet Should I Get?â€.
After the reading, my wife, daughter and niece joined The Cat in the Hat, Sam I am, and Thing 1 and Thing 2 for Carnival’s popular Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast with The Cat in the Hat and Friends (It’s part of the line’s exclusive Seuss at Sea program). This is one of our favorite activities when we cruise with Carnival and it was great being able to share it with my three-year-old niece. She loved the Green Eggs and Ham!
We had a great time and it was extra special being able to celebrate and support something as fantastic as the SPCA. No matter if they have four legs, three, or maybe even two. The SPCA has a friend that is perfect for you! I think Dr. Suess would agree with me.
