Can you feel it? Spring is here! Two things that I really love doing this time of year is watching the college basketball playoffs and cooking up some mouth watering BBQ. One just doesn’t seem right without the other. So, I’ve decided to come up with a new recipe that will feed both of my Spring fascinations… Buzzer Beater Brown Sugar and Bourbon BBQ Sandwiches!
I wanted to do something a little different this playoff season. I’ve slow cooked pork, beef and chicken. But, I have never slow cooked turkey. Challenge accepted! I wanted to use a turkey that was antibiotic free and had a good, clean flavor. I decided on Shady Brook Farms Turkey.
Shady Brook Farms premium turkeys are raised without growth-promoting antibiotics and are available without the premium price, so they fit my grocery budget. That was the just the kind of turkey I was looking for.
Buzzer Beater Brown Sugar and Bourbon BBQ Sandwiches:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/3 cup bourbon
- 5 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions:
- Bring all ingredients to a boil in saucepan at medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce heat and simmer until sauce is reduced to 2 cups.
- Stir often for about 10 minutes.
- Dice (4) Shady Brook Farms turkey cutlets and put it into a small slow cooker on low.
- Pour sauce over turkey and stir until the turkey is completely coated.
- Slow cook for 2 hours.
- Serve on your favorite style of BBQ roll (I prefer a Kaiser Roll).
- Garnish with a side of BBQ sauce and pepperoncini.
Enjoy!
If you have any extra sauce, it can be stored in the fridge and kept for up to three weeks.
